Cryptocurrencies, ICO's and Facebook's Libra; implications for the Pacific

Interest in fintech, blockchain, cryptocurrencies and initial coin offerings, and their potential in the Pacific, is extraordinarily high and growing. However, in scholarly literature and the media there is widespread misunderstanding about many aspects of this phenomena.

In this presentation, Ross Buckley, UNSW Law Scientia Professor and KPMG Law - KWM Chair in Disruptive Innovation and Law, demystifies these developments and discusses how Pacific regulators might respond to them.

Ross's presentation was delivered on behalf of PSDI at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Financial Supervisors of Pacific countries in Nuku'alofa on 4 September 2019, which was hosted by the National Reserve Bank of Tonga and the Pacific Financial Technical Assistance Centre.
